Britain`s Recent Immigrants

The newspaper article is about the immigrants in Britain and their reasons why they have left their countries. It tells something about the hopes what the immigrants had when they came to Britain and their real life which is often very difficult.
Most of the immigrants came to Britian to earn their living and raise their children in better circumstances. In their home country they have heard about good opportunities for all people and so their hope was to create a better lifestyle for themselves and their families.
But actually the reality is quite different from their hopes altough in 1976 the Race Relation Art made discrimination illegal.
Many immigrants in Britain do not have a job and this is a very important fact because jobs remain the key to a better life for immigrants.
It also is the reality of immigrants that when they have the luck to find a job it often is not a good job. Most of the immigrants can not work in their own profession, like Abdulmennan Ali.
He came to London to be with his family. He got a degree in engineering at the University of Dacca in Bangladesh and now he has to work as bus conductor.
Altough he speaks English very correctly he has no chance to get a good job because he looks differently. In his opinion there is quite a lot racism in Britain.
The article also informs about the life of Navinder Khan, her feelings and her problems.
Her parents have a small clothes shop. She is good at school and she would like to become a teacher or to do some sort of scientific research. But her parents have other aims for her.
They want to arrange her job and also arrange her marriage.
This often is a problem for children of immigrants that they have diffrent disguises about their lives than their parents. Therefore these children often feel trapped and they always have the felling to be on the outside and their culture has less value.
Also with the example of Roger Ferguson, who came to London from the Caribbean island Saint Lucia when he was twelve, the writer of the article shows us that the chances for immigrants are not very high because the people, in this example the teacher of Roger, make no attempt to understand the immigrants.
In spite of the fact that Roger has a lot of white friends and also his girlfriend is a white girl, he does not feel really equally.
At the end of the article the writer describes a system which works somewhat effectively in the USA – the ethnic monitoring. This system, where employers collect and publish statstics on the race of their ememployees, so that everyone can see if there is dscrimination, forces white people to think aboutthe problem.
To my mind, the writer of this article is right that a problem only can be solved when it is known.

Problems of immigrants in London

Being immigrnat means to come from another country. Coming from another country signifies to have another mentality, religion or languages and often also another colour of the skin.
A great problem for immigrants in London is the enemplyoyment. Having no work means to have less money and so for immigrants it is nearly impossible to create a better lifestyle.
Sometimes immigrants have the luck to get a job, but then it very often is not a good one.
It is a fact that the most time immigrants have to work in jobs which are paid badly and which are not their profession.
Difficult also is that older immigrants have a diffrent way of life. Often parents can not accept that their children want to break out from their tradition and culture. Children of immigrants often have their own idea of their lives. But in the end children of immigrants often feel that they are on the outside.
The hope is that when people getting used to each other, they learn to respect other cultures.

Ist zwar nur eine kurze Zusammenfasssung aber ich hoffe das ruft den Inhalt des Films wieder hervor^^

The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its storytelling lies the question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love
